Join us for a new adult discussion group here at the Initiative. Father John will be reading For Mind and Heart: St. Nektarios as Teacher. We often focus on St. Nektarios’ role as a Wonderworker and overlook his calling as a teacher of the Church. This book allows us to delve in to some of the topics which St. Nektarios addressed as a teacher. Father John will lead a discussion of the various chapters, such as “Motherhood and the Raising of Children”, “The Calling of Youth in Society,” “On Exercise,” “Concerning Greek Philosophy as a Guide Leading to Christianity,” and “The Necessary Attributes of a Spiritual Shepherd”.
Father John has been leading adult discussion groups and classes for the
Initiative since its inception last summer. When Father John mentioned to his present discussion group that he would be adding this group on, one of his participants asked, “Father John, did you just not have enough to do?,” and Father responded that while he does have a lot to do as the Headmaster of the growing Initiative with the daytime classes with students, meetings with parents, and training new teachers, he feels that it is of paramount importance to provide an opportunity for adults to have a chance to receive Spiritual nourishment as well!
This discussion group with Father John will certainly provide you with that opportunity.
The group will be held on Fridays at 7:30 and the cost will be $125
with a $25 discount for parents whose children are in Initiative classes. We would love to see you there!
