Join our St. Ephraim the Syrian Lenten Discussion Group!
Throughout the Holy and Great Fast, we recite the prayer of St. Ephraim the Syrian:
“O Lord & Master of my Life, a spirit of idleness, curiosity, ambition, and idle talking give me not.
But a spirit of humility, chastity, patience & love, bestow upon me thy servant.
Yea, O Lord King, grant me to see my own faults and not to judge my brother, for blessed art Thou unto the ages of ages. Amen.”
This prayer is exceptionally helpful. It sets the various virtues before us and makes us realize that we have to ask God for assistance in living a virtuous life.
Saint Ephraim was a consummate teacher of repentance. This Great Lent, we will seek to look more deeply into the writings of St. Ephraim.
We will read three of his homilies:
- On Our Lord
- On Admonition & Repentance
- On the Sinful Woman
The instructor will provide the students with the homilies in MP3 & PDF format. The students will also be provided with audio commentary on the readings. The class will meet once a week to discuss the homilies for one hour under the instructor’s supervision.
With trust in the All-Merciful Lord
Let us act now. The Lord loves our children more than we do and will multiply our sacrifices ten-thousandfold by
His infinite grace.
A mighty oak from an acorn grows
We are growing a sapling right now, but our hope and dream is to establish a learning institution that will be accessible long after we pass from this earth.
