Course Description
The second session of Icon classes will cover the historical events and the iconography period after the recapture of Constantinople, called the Palaeologan Renaissance, focusing on two iconographers from Thessaloniki, Eutychios Astrapas and his son Michael.
We will also examine the famous Decani Church and provide the historical context and examine closely the amazing collection of frescoes found therein. Later classes will cover the famous Feofan Grek who lived from 1340 to 1410 and Saint Andrei Rublev who lived circa 1360-1430 and, time permitting other fresco programs from a variety of locales.
We will also cover the topic of Byzantine Manuscripts and how they are made and examples from many places with historical background.
