It almost goes without saying that it is important to study history. Yet, for the Orthodox Christian, the study of history has become an ideological minefield. One can read book after book on United States History. These textbooks leave the young reader with the impression that Christianity is a tool of oppression. However, it is important that our students who live in the United States learn more about their own history. Furthermore, many states require the study of U.S. History to complete high school. To answer this need, we are providing a U.S. History class that is taught by and for Orthodox Christians.
In this class, we will approach the study of history from an Orthodox point of view. Indeed, as it should be, Orthodoxy is always the foundation for all of our studies. Topics will include: The Colonial Period, The Revolutionary War, The Constitution, The Founders, The Civil War, Reconstruction, World Wars I and II, The Cold War, and others.
